 Over a period of just two months, Meta ( previously called Facebook) has reduced its workforce by almost 21,000 employees. One of the primary reasons behind the company firing employees in such large numbers is overhiring.  They were hired for the strangest roles and had no fixed or substantial job to do. One of the Meta employees who was fired in the first round of layoffs after spending 7 months without any active work, has claimed that the employees had to fight to find work.

How can we avoid such a situation? It's not inappropriate to ask some questions to your prospective employer during and interview.

These questions can help you gauge whether the company has a thoughtful approach to hiring and managing its workforce, which can reduce the risk of layoffs due to overhiring or other factors. Additionally, they can help you determine whether the company values employee development and engagement, which can be important for your own job satisfaction and career growth
