What is meant by IP rating like IPX7 and IPX5 on electronic devices ?

IPX7 and IPX5 and others are ratings that describe the protection against water that electronic devices, such as smartphones and headphones, have.

IPX7 stands for "Ingress Protection rating 7" and indicates that the device is waterproof and can be submerged in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes without any damage.

IPX5 stands for "Ingress Protection rating 5" and indicates that the device is water-resistant and can withstand water splashes from any direction.

These ratings are defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and provide a standardized method to evaluate the waterproofness of electronic devices.
